PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks finally got a shutdown performance from their bullpen, then benefited from a bases-loaded walk to end a long night and a four-game losing streak.Welington Castillo drew a one-out walk to drive in Paul Goldschmidt with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning, sending the Diamondbacks to a 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.Goldschmidt led off the inning with a single off Blaine Boyer (1-2) and moved to second on Jake Lambs single. One out later, David Peralta reached on an error to load the bases and Castillo walked on a 3-1 pitch from Boyer. It was a tough pitch. I am glad he didnt swing at it period because it might have been a double play ball, Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. That was the zone all night. We saw that. That was at the bottom a little bit below the knees. He wasnt calling that. He (umpire Jeff Kellogg) was very consistent that way.Boyer had some words for Kellogg as he headed into the dugout.I asked him how his familys doing, and he said theyre doing good, Boyer joked. Thats what we do as pitchers, right? We think the umpires are wrong every time. Im sure that call could have gone either way. Its 100 percent on me. I didnt make my pitches when I needed to make them and that one hurts.Reliever Adam Loewen (1-0) struck out two in a scoreless inning for his first win with the Diamondbacks. Loewen and five other relievers held the Brewers scoreless on two hits for five innings after three rocky outings from the bullpen in a series sweep by Washington. The bullpen, that was a big night for us, Hale said. Everybody looked good that came in did the job. The whole group. We have been tying to figure this thing out. To have some success is what you can build on.Yasmany Tomas hit two solo home runs, going deep for the third straight game, for Arizona. He has a major league-leading six multi-home run games this season. The Brewers failed to score in the top of the first despite a leadoff double by Jonathan Villar, who took third on an error by Tomas in left field. Villar was thrown out at home plate on a ground ball to shortstop, ramming into Arizona catcher Castillo on the tag.Tomas homer in the second put the Diamondbacks up 1-0.It is all about the way I am working. I am working really hard to make a good selection, on a good pitch, Tomas said through a translator.Milwaukee tied it in the fourth on a two-out single by Orlando Arcia, his first major-league hit and RBI. Hernan Perez scored on the play.Arcia was awarded third base when Diamondbacks second baseman Jean Segura, a former Brewer, threw the ball from Arcias hit into the Milwaukee dugout before time had been called. Segura was charged with an error. He just threw the ball in right away. The play wasnt over yet, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said.Tomass 21st home run of the season cleared the right-field fence in the bottom of the fourth, giving Arizona a 2-1 lead. But the Brewers drew even on a long pinch-hit home run to lead off the seventh by Keon Broxton off Diamondbacks starter Braden Shipley.Peralta took extra bases away from Arcia in the top of the ninth, reaching up to catch a fly ball near the fence. Kirk Niewenhuis dove to take a hit away from Castillo in the bottom of the ninth.Chase Anderson allowed two runs and four hits in six innings against his former team, striking out five and walking two.Shipley walked six in six-plus innings, allowing two runs and four hits.TRAINERS ROOMBrewers: OF Domingo Santana has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 8 with right elbow soreness. ... Mattias Janmark Jersey . -- Arizona raced out to a big lead and did not back off, hitting the accelerator instead. OMAHA, Neb. -- Until this week, Gary Gilmore didnt know if he would ever have as good a Coastal Carolina team as he did in 2010. That 55-win club was the No. 4 national seed for the NCAA Tournament but lost a pair of one-run games to South Carolina in super regionals. For six years, Gilmore was dogged by memories of watching the Gamecocks celebrate on his home field before they went on to win the first of two straight national championships.Losing in 2010 was the hardest gut-wrenching loss of my life, he said.On Thursday, Gilmore was holding the championship trophy. He and his Chanticleers won their schools first national title in any sport, validation for a baseball program that ranks eighth in wins since 2000 but until this year couldnt break through to make the College World Series.Their 4-3 victory over Arizona in the deciding Game 3 of the finals was their 41st in 50 games and gave them a nation-leading 54 wins against 18 losses.Though Gilmore liked this team coming into the season, he didnt necessarily see a national championship coming.I didnt think we were where we were in just sheer talent in 2010, Gilmore said, but I thought we were probably the second most talented team I had coached at Coastal Carolina at that point in time. The 2010 team had five players who were drafted in the first 10 rounds, five others who were drafted and a free agent who made it to the major leagues. This year, only shortstop Michael Paez and third baseman Zach Remillard were taken in the first 10 rounds, and four others were selected between the 27th and 34th rounds. Our motto has been `selfless and relentless for the last two years. Its on the carpet in our locker room, pitcher Alex Cunningham said. Coach Gilmore, hes literally the epitome of that. He embodies it in everything he does. This years team ran away with the Big South Conference title but had to make some narrow escappes to reach Omaha.dddddddddddd. The Chanticleers were down to their last strike in the regional final at North Carolina State before finishing a ninth-inning comeback to advance.Second baseman Seth Lancaster, who delivered the winning hit in the regional final, was lost for the season in the super regional at LSU because of a torn knee ligament. The Chanticleers swept the Tigers in one of the toughest venues in the country on Paezs walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. Then it was on to Omaha, where Coastal had to win four elimination games en route to the winner-take-all final Thursday. The Chanticleers led the nation in home runs but had just two in eight games at TD Ameritrade Park. They found other ways to win, taking advantage of the spacious outfield to hit 14 doubles, moving runners along with the bunt and getting the timely hit. They leaned heavily on a pitching staff whose competitiveness trumped its lack of elite talent and depth.CWS Most Outstanding Player Andrew Beckwith, who led the nation with 15 wins, pitched two complete games in bracket play and started Game 3 of the finals. Mike Morrison stepped out of his closers role to make his first start of the season in Game 2 of the finals and struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings, both career highs. Zack Hopeck was a hard-luck loser in a finals opener in which the Chanticleers couldnt solve JC Cloney, who pitched a complete-game shutout. This group just somehow found a way to do something that two or three of the other teams that were in the same position werent able to do, Gilmore said. They made a pitch. They made a play. We got a hit. We did something that enabled us to do it.---This version has been corrected to show that the Most Outstanding Player is named Andrew Beckwith.
