FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Chan Gailey watched Bryce Petty scramble to his left and, with a defender in his face, launch a pass down the field across his body -- and off his back foot. The first reaction by the New York Jets offensive coordinator probably mirrored that of many fans. No! No! No! Gailey recalled with a smile Wednesday. Then, he had a great play, and you get your call sheet ready for the next one.In other words, whew.Pettys gunslinger-like play was a key moment in overtime, connecting with Robby Anderson on a 26-yard pass that helped set up Bilal Powells winning 19-yard touchdown run last Sunday in New Yorks 23-17 victory at San Francisco. We needed to make a play and Robby made a great play on that ball, Petty said. Really, it was an outstanding effort by him.Petty kept the play alive and took a chance -- one the coaches might tell him he probably shouldnt in the future.Theyll say that if it doesnt work, Petty said with a big grin. Its one of those things that if it works, great, thats how we drew it up. And if it doesnt, `All right, lets not do that anymore.Petty had an uneven second NFL start, and first since being elevated to starter for the rest of the season. He was 23 of 35 for 257 yards, and had four rushes for 19 yards . Oh, and he also threw an interception on his first pass against the 49ers. Rather than be discouraged and rattled, Petty bounced back quickly. He did some good things, Gailey said. I thought he got more comfortable as the game went on. I hope hell learn from that experience and hopefully hell be better this week. Thats what you hope young players do.Petty acknowledged he had some nervous moments going into the game, something that surprised him.I dont really know why, said Petty, a fourth-round draft pick out of Baylor last year. Its being able to work through those things. I like the jitters. Theres a positive to that because Im passionate about the game. Im excited about that. Just have to be able to work through those.I think I was trying to confirm too much, seeing looks and wanting to make sure this is exactly what I saw instead of seeing it, trusting it and going.Coach Todd Bowles said Petty needs to improve on reading defenses, a common shortcoming for inexperienced quarterbacks. Bowles also wants him to loosen up a little bit early.Petty understands exactly where Bowles is coming from, and he agrees. Hell focus on having fun rather than trying to be perfect. Hell also exhale a bit before the game starts. There will be nerves, he said. I think its that part of getting through it: `OK, Ive done this. Its OK. Weve got it. Knowing what it can do and how it does hinder me and kind of use that knowledge to say, `OK, I cant let that happen, and be able to pull from it in a positive way.Its all part of the education and development of a young quarterback in the NFL.So is walking the fine line between being reckless and showing progress on the field.Do you take away a guys natural feel for the game and the playmaking ability that a guy has? Gailey said. You dont want to take that away, the aggressiveness and the, `Hey, were going to make a play here, by making him too conservative, either.Petty idolized Brett Favre while growing up in Midlothian, Texas, and his playing style resembles the Hall of Famer a bit. Favre, of course, retired as the NFLs leader in TD passes as well as interceptions.I dont like to use the word `gamble, Petty said of his own approach. No, I think thats kind of something Ive done since high school is when a play breaks down, I dont like giving up on plays.Instead of gamble, what would he prefer to call it?Making a play, I guess, he said, smiling.Petty was sacked six times by the 49ers, and he pinned them on himself because he held onto the ball too long. Gailey thought it was more Petty needing to make cleaner reads.Ill probably be better this week in that situation, in those scenarios, and just trust what I see and play, Petty said.Facing Miami on Saturday night, Petty will be up against one of the leagues most aggressive defensive fronts, with Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake, Jordan Phillips, Andre Branch and Mario Williams -- who have combined for 22 sacks -- leading the way. They have a really, really good pass rush, definitely the best Ive seen playing, Petty said. Its definitely an emphasis to get the ball out and just distribute because when we do that, positive things happen.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL Youth Browns Jerseys . All he wants is for his players to make the most of their chance. "Bayern are very sure of themselves and they feel confident of beating us for various reasons. After losing the final so many times it creates huge will to win," Klopp said Wednesday, referring to Bayerns two near misses in three years. "We dont think well win just like that. We think we have the chance to. That has to do us." Bayern will be the favourite at Wembley on May 25, especially after dismantling Barcelona 7-0 on aggregate in the semifinals, but Klopp pointed out that there have been many upsets in football before. He especially referred to West Germanys win over the famed Hungarian team at the World Cup in 1954, and German coach Sepp Herbergers words before the final. "He didnt say, Were going to win this game. He said, We can win this game. And Im sure the Hungarians thought differently." No matter what happens, Klopp is determined to make sure his team enjoys the occasion following an "incredible journey" to make it to Wembley. "Its still extraordinary," said Klopp, whose side overcame Spanish giant Real Madrid 4-3 on aggregate to reach the final. "You almost forget who we left behind. Such huge teams with such rich traditions. Were enjoying the moment and well enjoy the final." Dortmund came within minutes of being eliminated in the quarterfinals, only to score two goals in injury time to defeat Malaga 3-2. The improbability of that escape and the manner of Dortmunds 4-1 win over Madrid in the first leg of the semifinals has fans in this football-mad city dreaming of winning the title for the second time. Klopp, speaking before about 160 assembled journalists and 32 camera teams, was keen to downplay the euphoria and contain the excitement. "I dont pay attention to the stuff going on around the club. I dont see how others get into a frenzy," he said. "Its great how everything is cast in a better light. But really, it remains just a football game." Not just any game, though. Even Klopp gets excited when he allows himself to think about lifting the most prestigious trophy in European football. "If you want to achieve something, you really have to do your best and reach out the window, to be ready to dream," he said. "Its the only chance for us and the only thing I want -- that this team can take this cup and put it in the club museum, to show how extraordinary this is. Thhats all.dddddddddddd Were ready to try everything." A Dortmund win would ruin an otherwise perfect season for bitter rival Bayern, which ran away with the Bundesliga title in record fashion and is also the overwhelming favourite against Stuttgart in the German Cup final on June 1. Mario Goetze is recovering from the left hamstring injury sustained against Madrid, but Klopp was confident the 20 year-old will be fit. "Goetze is running again. We will intensify the training program toward the end of the week. The plan is for him to start training with the team next week. Then well see. Its all gone according to plan so far," Klopp said. It would be Goetzes last game for Dortmund before his eyebrow-raising switch to Bayern. The attacking midfielder is considered Germanys top prospect and Bayern is parting with (euro)37 million to activate his buy-out clause. "We didnt want it but we have to accept it," said Dortmund sports director Michael Zorc. "We wont have these clauses anymore even if it means we lose one or two players." If Goetze doesnt recover on time, German teammate Ilkay Gundogan will be expected to take his position behind Polish striker Robert Lewandowski. "I dont think its that difficult. I played there in the youth teams and know whats required of the position. I know what I have to do," Gundogan said. Lewandowski, who has 10 goals in the competition so far, is reportedly another transfer target for Bayern. The Polish striker has refused to sign a new deal at Dortmund and Bayerns interest has inflamed further tension between the sides. "All of us, Robert included, are totally concentrated on this game," Klopp said. "Afterward we can worry about such things. Its a big if (he leaves). Im presuming that he stays. Im not even thinking about him leaving." Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, a former Bayern player, said the recent bad blood between the clubs provided no added incentive to win. "Just reaching this final itself should be motivation enough for us," Hummels said. Dortmund beat Juventus 3-1 to win the trophy in 1997, its only previous appearance at this stage, and Klopp was keen to draw parallels in the challenge facing his side. "Juve were probably the best team in the world at the time, with (Zinedine) Zidane and all those players. Dortmund had no chance before the game and look how that turned out. Of course its an inspiration," Klopp said. "We want to make our parents proud. If we win, were not the best team in the world, but well have beaten the best team in the world."
