PARIS -- Marseilles new American owner, Frank McCourt, is moving quickly to make the ailing club competitive again.Three days after officially taking over, he hired highly rated coach Rudi Garcia in time for Sundays match against bitter rival Paris Saint-Germain.McCourt has much work to do, with Marseille languishing in 12th place in the French league, while the baseball team McCourt used to own, the Los Angeles Dodgers, is two wins from reaching the World Series. When he completed his takeover on Monday, McCourt pledged to act swiftly and proved true to his word -- bringing in the French coach who led Lille to a French league and cup double five years ago. It was at Lille that Garcia helped develop the talent of a young Eden Hazard, now a star for Chelsea and Belgium. As Roma coach, Garcia set an Italian top-flight record by opening the 2013-14 season with 10 straight wins.Rudi has a lot of character and a lot of energy, McCourt said. We share the same vision for Marseille and an identical determination to put it into place.Hiring someone who was voted French coach of the year three times was a powerful statement, and a good way for McCourt to show fans he means business.Such is PSGs outright dominance that French football struggles to maintain a high interest level.Frank McCourts arrival is a good thing, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said. We need investors like him to raise the level of competition in the league.McCourt has pledged to invest 200 million euros ($220 million) over four years. He is looking for an experienced sporting director, and Marseille is linked with Andoni Zubizarreta, who previously held the role at Barcelona.McCourt will be in the stands at Parc des Princes to watch Sunday nights game.Games between PSG and Marseille used to be the most passionate in French football, fueling hysterical support with a violent edge. After fans were involved in heavy clashes around Marseilles seaport in October 2009, away supporters were banned from attending the fixture for several years. The clampdown was relaxed recently to allow small numbers to travel, but only under strict police control.Marseilles meager ticket allocation of 500 for Sundays match was snubbed by the fans because PSGs away section holds 2,000.Sundays atmosphere will lack the deafening chants and vicious goading so commonplace before. One game at Parc des Princes got so hostile that riot police had to protect winger Fabrice Fiorese with shields when he was taking a corner.Fiorese had left PSG to join Marseille in the summer of 2004, and the betrayal felt by PSG fans was reflected in the objects and insults raining down from the stands. The edge in their intense rivalry has dimmed, however, due to Marseilles slump. Since winning its ninth league title six years ago, it has won only the 2012 League Cup.It still has something PSG craves, though.Marseille is the only French side to win the European Cup, beating Italian powerhouse AC Milan 1-0 in 1993. PSG has reached only the semifinals. But since being taken over by cash-rich Qatari owners QSI in June 2011, PSG has streaked ahead of Marseille. Heading into Sunday, PSG was in second place.PSG secured its second straight domestic treble last season, winning the league by an astounding 31 points, and reaching a fourth straight Champions League quarterfinal.Marseille finished a miserable 13th and failed to qualify for Europe. It was a turbulent season, with fans turning on players amid a chaotic merry-go-round of coaches.Marcelo Bielsa, revered by fans but at odds with then-president Vincent Labrune, walked out one game into the season after saying he signed a new contract. He was hurriedly replaced by Michel, who clashed with Labrune and was fired near the end, and replaced by Franck Passi.Marseilles fans can be incredibly loyal or angry, depending on their perception of how the team is being run and performances on the pitch.McCourt needs them on his side, in the same way the passionate and highly popular president Bernard Tapie did during the successful 1990s.Hiring Garcia is one way of giving them strong early assurances. When I met Rudi, he told me right away that he wanted to win the Champions League, McCourt said. I knew he was the man for Marseille. The 63-year-old McCourt sold the Dodgers for $2 billion in 2012.In October 2009, his wife Jamie McCourt filed for divorce and they reached a financial agreement in their divorce in late 2011. The deal came after the Dodgers filed for bankruptcy, setting the stage for the teams sale.He paid Jamie McCourt $131 million and other assets to resolve financial issues in the pairs divorce. She sought to block the deal, but early last year a California appeals court refused to overturn the settlement. Will Richardson Jersey . -- Devin Hester is done returning kicks in Chicago. The 29-year-old Baines has established himself as one of the top attacking full backs in the country and was the subject of two bids from United during the last off-season. Everton manager Roberto Martinez says that keeping Baines at the club is a "massive boost and exciting for the future" because he brings "maturity and football knowledge in a very specialized position on the pitch" and an "infectious and positive influence to the rest of the squad. CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have found a complementary running back for Doug Martin once their No. 1 back returns from a hamstring injury.Jacquizz Rodgers finished with a career-best 101 rushing yards on 30 carries -- 32 yards and 17 carries more than he had in the Buccaneers previous three games combined -- as Tampa Bay defeated the Carolina Panthers 17-14 on Monday night. The Bucs (2-3), who came into the game ranked 28th in the league in rushing, made a conscious effort to move the ball on the ground early on. They handed the ball off to Rodgers on the first six plays of the game, and Rodgers had 62 rushing yards before the end of the first quarter. Tampa Bay maintained possession for 21:45 over the first two quarters en route to a 6-0 halftime lead.I saw him carry it about 50 times in one game at Oregon State against USC a few years back, so I knew he could do it, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said. The Bucs have a bye next week and Martin could return after that if he continues to make strides with his rehab.Things we learned from the Bucs win over the Panthers:BATTERED BUCS, CATS: Both teams should be thankful for their upcoming bye weeks, as battered as they were entering Monday nights game.Tampa Bay had six players listed as inactive with injuries, including five starters -- Martin, tight end Luke Stocker (ankle), defensive tackles Gerald McCoy (calf) and Clinton McDonald (hamstring) and defensive end Robert Ayers (ankle).Carolina was down four starters, including league MVP Cam Newton (concussion), running back Jonathan Stewart (hamstring), left tackle Michael Oher (concussion) and cornerback James Bradberry (toe). Defensive tackle Vernon Butler (ankle), the Panthers first-round pick in the 2016 Draft, was also out.Tampa Bay has its bye next week, while Carolinas comes the following week.PANTHERS NEW SECONDARY: The Panthers had three new starters in the secondary after getting torched by Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan for 503 passing yards last week -- including 300 yards to All-Pro receiver Julio Jones. The Panthers waived cornerback Bene Benwikere and brought up rookie Zack Sanchez from the practice squad. So how did Carolinas new secondary perform against the Buccaneers? The jurys still out.Winston didnt put up Ryan-like numbers Monday, and he didnt attempt any passes longer than 20 yards until the second half, including a 26-yardd touchdown pass to Mike Evans late in the third quarter.ddddddddddddEvans finished with 89 yards on six catches, but he was targeted by Winston 12 times. Six other Tampa Bay players had receptions, including a 38-yard catch by tight end Cameron Brate after he slipped behind Panthers linebackers A.J. Klein and Luke Kuechly.TURNOVER-PRONE PANTHERS: One of the big reasons the Panthers are 1-4 this season: turnovers.Carolina led the league in turnover margin while posting a 15-1 regular-season record, winning the NFC title and advancing to Super Bowl 50 last season. But this is a different team -- one that is not only turning the ball over more, but not forcing opponents into as many turnovers. The Panthers had four turnovers against the Buccaneers -- two fumbles and two interceptions -- giving them 11 on the season, tied with Buffalo for third-most in the league.Even worse, Carolinas defense didnt force a turnover for the second straight game. They are now a minus-7 overall, tying for third-worst in the league with Miami and the New York Giants.NO PASS RUSH: A big reason the Panthers are struggling on defense is their inability to generate a pass rush without blitzing. Carolinas starting defensive ends Charles Johnson and Kony Ealy have yet to record a sack this season. In fact, defensive tackle Kyle Love -- who has been with the team only two weeks -- leads all D-linemen with 1 + sacks.AGUAYOS FUTURE: While Roberto Aguayo came through in the clutch with Tampa Bays game-winning score Monday, his rookie season has been inconsistent at best. The Buccaneers second-round draft pick was the third-most accurate kicker in NCAA history at Florida State with 69 of 78 field goal attempts made and made all 198 extra points. While Aguayo made a pair of 35-yarders in the first half against the Panthers for a 6-0 halftime lead, he also bounced a 33-yard attempt off the right upright in the first half and pulled a 46-yarder left in the third quarter. After Monday nights game, Aguayo is 4 of 8 on field goals for the season, putting him last in the league in percentage (50 percent) among kickers with five or more attempts.---AP Freelance Writer Bill Kiser contributed to this report.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Nike NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys Store Wholesale Jerseys China Jerseys NFL China ' ' '
