It hasn't taken Gary Sanchez long to make an impact in the majors. In just 18 games this season, he has eight home runs and 15 RBIs. Sanchez's early succe s isn't a surprise; he has been considered an Jose Bautista Jersey elite prospect for years. The true surprise is how the Yankees have handled incumbent catcher Brian McCann since Sanchez's arrival.Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A on Aug. 3; since then, McCann has been behind the plate for just three of 17 games, including Tuesday night's victory over the Mariners in Seattle. McCann has been primarily a designated hitter the rest of the time; after an 0-for-4 night Tuesday, he's slashing .180/.305/.260 in that period. Those numbers speak to why the Yankees seem ready to part with McCann.A rumored reunion with the Braves via an offseason trade makes a ton of sense, but why should the Yankees wait until the offseason to make a move?MORE: MLB trade deadline '16 Cashman & Co. big winnersMcCann hasn't quite lived up to the expectation that he'd be a 30-plus home run catcher for the Yankees, though he has been mostly solid at the plate during his three years in pinstripes. With Sanchez and other Marcus Stroman Cool Base Royal Jersey young talent taking over the team, it's high time for the Yankees to move McCann. And why should the Yankees limit themselves to McCann's hometown team? General manager Brian Cashman should see how much interest he can generate before the Aug. 31 deadline. Two contenders, in fact, could provide landing spots: the Indians, who were spurned by Jonathan Lucroy at the trade deadline and are at the bottom of the majors in catcher production this season; and the Astros, who have gotten limited production from their catchers. The Indians seem to have the AL Central locked up and the Astros are in the playoff hunt, but both teams would probably listen if Cashman called. At this stage in his career, McCann is Roberto Alomar Practice Royal Blue Jersey most likely looking to win, and win a lot, and the Indians are poised to make a deep October run. The Astros are le s of a sure thing, but they're one good week from challenging for a wild-card spot. Both are viable options if McCann decides to waive his no-trade clause. There are other caveats to a trade: McCann is owed $34 million over the next two seasons and has a $15 million vesting option for 2019; he would have to clear trade waivers, which he reportedly did a few weeks ago; and the Yankees would have to include some of those millions in any Aaron Sanchez Jersey deal, which is bad news for a franchise that's suddenly in a limited-spending state of mind.MORE: Why gap in AL MVP race is smaller than you'd believe A change of scenery would most likely make McCann's offensive woes disappear. His numbers in New York have not matched his production in Atlanta, where for a time he was arguably baseball's top hitting catcher. With the Braves, he had a .277 average and an .823 OPS; with the Yankees, those figures have dipped to .231 and .725, respectively. Still, a lefthanded-hitting catcher with power and a solid defensive reputation screams value. With Sanchez the everyday backstop now and in the near future, McCann would either JA Happ Jersey need to become a full-time DH in New York or go to a different team. With impact talent coming from the farm Sanchez, Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin this year, and a returning Greg Bird and maybe Jorge Mateo next season the Yankees' lineup will be loaded with youth in 2017 and beyond. If the club is serious about giving those players at-bats and it seems to be then trading McCann is the next logical move.Given the creativity Cashman demonstrated at the non-waiver trade deadline this season, it's difficult to envision a scenario in which McCann isn't in a new uniform by Sept. 1, or in 2017 at the latest. Preying on the desperation of other executives would be the piece de resistance of Cashman's summer.
