Lightweight Felix Verdejo, the rising Puerto Rican star and 2014 ESPN.com prospect of the year, is expected to be released from the hospital in the next few days following the motorcycle accident he was involved in on Sunday, which he escaped with only minor injuries.I just saw him at the hospital and he is talking and walking and in good spirits, Gardy Lopez, the Top Rank publicist who works with Verdejo, told ESPN on Friday afternoon. The only reason he is still in the hospital is because of all the scratches. They will keep him to make sure they heal properly. He has cuts and scratches all over his body. But he had a CT scan and an MRI and there are no fractures. He has no fractures, no organ damage and no internal bleeding.Verdejo was wearing a helmet, but it was open-faced and he suffered cuts and scratches to his forehead and face and as well as other areas of his body.Verdejo was riding a dirt bike on a highway near San Juan.He saw a bump in the road and tried to avoid it, and thats when he lost control of the motorbike, Lopez told ESPN. Thank God everything is OK. He escaped this accident with just a lot of scratches.Lopez said there was no exact timeline for Verdejos release. He said the doctors originally thought Verdejo would be released as soon as this past Tuesday, but that was delayed until Friday and then put off again.So it should be in the next few days, Lopez said.As far as boxing, Lopez said, We dont have an exact timeline for his recuperation period. Once he is 100 percent healthy, we can start talking about boxing.
